Downloading &
Merging Data Files
I would recommend downloading & installing
the FREE Zip+ Extractor program to Merge data files with download
folder (Especially Vista OS users). It is much easier
than have Windows unzip the file and then you have to Copy
& Paste the PfGm2009 file to the Download folder (C:\Program
Files\PDS Pro Football\Download).
JZIP
- FREE - Zip & .rar File Extractor
This is not a manditory installation - only a helpful
suggestion
Remember Vista
users must give permission (full control), a one time
only operation to PDS Pro or College Football - See Data
Files to refresh your memory.
Here are some diagrams to illustrate
ease of use: This picture will appear when downloading
PfGm2009/CfGm2009 files. Select file to be extracted and hit
the 'Extract' button at the top of program. then install in
the 'Download Folder' of the PDS Pro Football program, or
the PDS College Football program. (see next diagram
below)

Choose your Pro/College Download folder as shown above and
EXTRACT (hit extract button) to that folder,
then follow merge instructions below (very similar to Old
PDS programs).
If you rather not use this program, you are
sertainly welcome to copy & paste file
to C:\Program Files\PDS Pro Football\Download,
or C:\Program Files\PDS College Football\Download
Folders.

Zip & .rar File Extractor
-- You should PRINT and SAVE this page
for future reference --
After you have selected the file you wish to download (season-to-date)
from our SPORTS DATA FILES page you will receive a FILE DOWNLOAD
screen asking you to open or save. If you have installed the
JZip program follw the instructions above.
If you don't have JZip Zip file extractor, or something comparable,
Vista OS will extract files for you, but usually in some common
program. You can 'copy & paste' the PfGm2009,
or CfGm2009 file to the Download folder, i.e., C:\Program
Files\PDS Pro Footbal\Download (use PDS College Football\Download
for that program)
You can press the SAVE button. and extract
it to the desktop and 'cut & paste' to
the download folder as described above. You want to open (extract)
the data files, and ultimately end up in the C:\Program
Files\PDS Pro Footbal\Download (use PDS College Football\Download
for that program) When you select MERGE FILES from the UTILITIES
module in our software the select the year from the drop down
box and the files merged into the appropriate database file.
To reiterate:
1. Open (extract) file to desktop,
or in Vista's case wherever the default is located.
2. Select DRIVE C:. Your computer might list
Drive C: as LOCAL DRIVE C:. Depending on your Windows Operating
System Settings you might have to DOUBLE CLICK to select the
drive. All the FOLDERS and FILES on your DRIVE C will be listed.
3. From the list of folders and files listed
on your Drive C find a FOLDER with the name of PROGRAM FILES
(the list should be in alphabetical order). Select this folder
by double clicking on it. All the FOLDERS and FILES in the
folder PROGRAM FILES will be listed there. (Vista
users don't forget to give permission
(full control) of football and download folders,
a one time operation - it's manditory for the program to work:
see data
Files for help.
4. From the list of folders and files listed
in the folder PROGRAM FILES find a FOLDER with the name of
PDS Pro Football, or College (the list should be in alphabetical
order). Select this folder by double clicking on it. this
opens up the football program. All the FOLDERS and FILES in
the folder PDS Pro or College will be listed, and the download
folder should be at the top. This is where to paste
the PfGm2009 file by 'right clicking' and selecting paste
and left click.
5. Again, from the list of folders and files
listed in the folder PDS Pro Football (College) find a FOLDER
with the name of DOWNLOAD (the list should
be in alphabetical order - folders at top). Right click on
the download folder and paste appropriate file. This is the
last folder you will have to select. Here is the path again:
C\Program Files\PDS Pro Football\Download
6. Exit program and C:\ drive
After your download is complete you will have
to start your software system (Pro Football, College Football,
Pro Basketball, College Basketball, Pro Baseball or Pro Hockey)
in order to merge the data file into the appropriate database.
The following instructions will complete the download and
merge process.
1. From the MAIN MENU of the appropriate software
system select UTILITIES.
2. From the UTILITIES MENU select MERGE FILES.
3. When you get the MERGE FILES screen make
sure the SEASON is set to the current season - 2009 from drop
down selection box.
4. From the FILE LIST select the file you are
merging by clicking on it, then hit OK. The file name will
be listed in the SELECTED FILE box. If there is no file listed
in the file list then you were not successful in selecting
the proper folders , or you have already updated the files.
5. A "MERGE SUCCESSFUL" message will
be displayed in the Merge Status Box.
If you have trouble following the above instructions
please feel free to give us a call at (224) 356-4176
and we will be more than happy to talk you through as many
downloads as necessary. (Remember using JZip,
or asimilar extractor program, will make life a whole lot
easier).
